Any last minute tips or advice...

.. for Regensburg, Vienna, Salzburg/Berchtesgadenerland and Munich? I have been picking up tips from your responses to others' posts, and I have been on the M-V-S circuit before, but I have also missed a lot in the past. This will be my first visit to Regensburg and mountains south of Salzburg. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

If you're really, REALLY into Germany history, check out Walhala outside of Regensburg. My experience in Regenburg was heavily influenced by the Bürgerfest that was going on the day I visited (quite by chance, I didn't realize it was happening until I arrived) and my steadily-increasing blood alcohol level. It looked like a beautiful city, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't just the beer goggle effect. But I didn't notice much in the way of tourable historic buildings, except for a few churches and the Rathaus. Have you seen Chiemsee between Munich and Salzburg? Worth anywhere from a few hours to a full day of your time. If it stays hot, you can consider a swim to cool off. I found St. Bartholomä's on the edge of Königsee a little underwhelming, depsite being one of those iconic images of Bavaria. If you decide to take the boat ride out, make it more worth your while by going around lunch time, so you can at least sit around the restaurant and beer garden.

Hi, I was in Regensburg once in the summer of 1989, stayed in a Pension close to the Hbf. The hostel is too far away. The Innenstadt is interesting, but my main reason for going there, aside from seeing Regensburg itself, was to get to Kelheim, a little to the west, as a day trip. The Befreiungshalle commemorating the battles/victories in the war of liberation against Napoleon is situated there, up on that hill visible from the bus stop. It's worth the hike, and it's huge once you're inside, spent the rest of the afternoon perusing the place.

Thanks, guys, and also Joe in Fort Payne, for your advice. And to those whose advice to others helped me in setting up this trip. I will post a report on each place when we get back.
