We will be travelling to CDG, and I wanted to know if anyone has had any issues bringing their tripod on-board vs packing it in your checked luggage - TSA says no issues, but still thought I would post this. Its a very nice carbon-fiber tripod, which is why I want to keep it with me vs checking it. Thanks.
It makes more sense to check with your airline than to ask such a general question here.
airline said to talk to TSA. So they were no help.
If you don't want to brave a regular tripod, what about something like a Gorilla pod?
the gorilla is great, but too small for my 28-300mm zoom lens, which is a very nice lens but also heavy - was gonna buy it anyway for my smaller 16-38 which is a LOT lighter and maybe use it inside cathedrals and stuff - also have a bean bag that screws to the bottom of the camera that I use inside - thanks for the suggestion.
We just returned from one month photographing in Italy and my husband ( a professional photographer) packed his tripod in his checked luggage. I do not think you can carry it on. We had no problems at any airport or on any plane.
Mine wasn't a tripod, rather two hiking sticks. We almost lost them to the weapons pile. Lucked out after numberous questions and two check points.
That was overseas.
In the US I was told three different thing in three different flights on the same airline. Firtst flight, it had to be stored by flight attendant in front closet. Second flight, it couldn't be stored in the front closet, I must take it to the overhead where I was sitting. Third leg, had to check it.
Now we have a large bag for fishing poles. We check them with no problems. Good luck
thanks for all replys - just got back and no issues on any flights - I'm not a pro, but have a nice carbon fiber tripod that I took for night shots - Paris hand-checked the bag (I brought it as carryon) on the way back, but no issues on any other flights
