Hi all - My research shows that there are luggage lockers to rent at the train stations in both Antwerp and Ghent. We are considering stops in both towns on our trip next month while train connecting between other cities. My question: does anyone have any recent personal knowledge of how safe it is to use these lockers? Some travelers on other forums state they are stolen from frequently. It would be great use of time to stop on the way, but not if I spend the entire time with the nagging thought of "should I have done that?". Thanks very much.
Back in May, I used the lockers at both stations with no problems. All seemed to be in good working order with no physical signs that any had been forced open. At Gent St Pieters Station, you also have the option of using a luggage hold counter. I went with the lockers because the counter service was twice as expensive. At Antwerp only lockers are available. I should also note that in Antwerp, my 72 year-old mother was robbed 30 seconds after exiting the train station, after a gentleman "bumped" into her. So do make sure you are wearing that money belt.
