Antiquing in Paris

We are going to be in Paris over the holidays and were thinking about antique shopping. Does anyone have good reccomendations for antique shopping by arrondissement, street, or store?

Find a flea market if you can. Very interesting things to be seen and bought at flea markets and usually much cheaper than an antique store.

I picked up some silver pewter serving pieces from a flea market in Zurich that were date stamped mid 1700's.

We really like Port de Vanves flea market. It is easy to get to on the metro and there are some really good buys there. We were just there November 1st.I do not know if it is open all year , but if it is you should go. It is on Saturday and Sunday and it is out doors. There are wonderful French things-some of the best paintings I have seen. Village St Paul is another place to go. There are many antique shops there.Village St Paul is off Rue Saint Paul in the 4th. arrondissement. We always take the metro there, but the metro stop is north of the village. Rue St. Paul has a great little place called somethind like Le Bonne Hour- that is not exactly it, but it had all kinds of wonderful kitchen antiques. It is about 1 block up from the river on St.Paul. Tiny little place ,chocked full of marvelous little items to take home. In the village itself we go to Sylvain Calvier"s photography shop- many old photographs, some from famous French masters. This shop is only open in the afternoon, about 2 or3 onwards, but if you want to see the most complete selection of old photos this is it. He has been written up in the New York Times. Very tiny shop, thousands if photos. Bring your wallet. He speaks no English, but is a very nice guy. Have wonderful time.

Paul.. I forgot something. LOL. If you are really into antiqueing, Isle-sur la Sorgue is the place. You probably cannot go this trip...but. , You fly into Paris, rent a car at Orly, drive downn the A6 to Isle-sur la- Sorgue.. stay at the Hotel Nevons.. because they have their own parking.... and spend the weekend going to the hundreds of wonderful antique shops... and you must go to the Sunday antique market. It is wonderful.... Bring a container.

The most noted Flea market/Antique site in Paris is:
http://www.les-puces.com/index.html

According to their site they are the largest flea market in the world. There are numerous antique dealers there, everything from Louis XIV to Art Deco.
Easy to get to, just go to Metro Stop Porte de Clignancourt and follow the crowds. And yes, we bought various items there (mostly majolica dishes and service plates)
