Planning a trip to France the week before Easter...I'm pretty sure I'll spend 4 or 5 days in Paris and the surrounding areas (Giverny, Normandy). Trying to decide if I want to head south to Arles/Avignon during Easter weekend or go to the Loire Valley. I have places to stay in both regions, I just don't know which one I should do! It's my first time in France so any advice would be great!
Arles/Avignon/Nimes/Pont Du Gard if you are interested in old Roman remains (arenas, bridges etc) and ruins; Loire if you want to see pretty castles (chateaux) and gardens. Loire is a lot closer to paris. We enjoyed both areas, but would probably choose Loire for our first trip.
Depending on time available, Loire is also convenient for Chartres (cathedral is a must see), Mont St Michel, Bayeaux tapestry and the west Coast
If just for a wkend go to Loire valley. You will not be disappointed. Save Provence when you have at least 4 days to see this lovely region.
