Annecy - special Dining option

Seems to me that I read an old post stating there was a nice Restaurant located outside Annecy, that could be reached by car, with a fantastic view of the Lake, and reasonably good food. Was I dreaming this? Can anyone help?

Jim -- it could have been one of several places in Talloires -- the Abbaye, the Cottage, or the Auberge du Pere Bise. Check those out on Tripadvisor and see what you think.

I had lunch at the Abbaye and dinner at the Cottage a few weeks ago. Both were very nice. The terrace at the Cottage would be spectacular if the weather is nice when you're there. There's a bus between Annecy and Talloires that lets you off at the top of the town (Talloires Ecoles is the name of the stop). Then you walk down to lake level. The bus doesn't run on Sundays.

Kim, thanks for a second reply. We will have a car, how far from Annecy, which road number? Are the menus only in French? I like to explore, we may go by and check it out for a future visit. We are not " foodies", what would you suggest for an appetizer? Are there many tourists that just come for the view? Or is a person compelled to dine there?

Jim, in answer to part of your last query, we took the bus to Talloire last time we were in Annecy, and did it just to walk though the village and see the lake, w/o having a meal anywhere. And with a car, you can also stop at some additional villages between Annecy and Talloire (such as Menthon-St. Bernard) and explore them, or go further and stop at some villages on the other side of the lake, such as Duingt.

Hi Jim -- I don't know the number of the road, it's whatever the main road is that skirts the east side of Lake Annecy. These restaurants are expensive, so if you're not foodies, they might not be the right thing. However, I would imagine an afternoon drink (and snack?) on the terrace would be delightful. There are also boats out of Annecy that offer dining options as you cruise the lake, I think. Your best bet would be to google the websites of these hotels/restaurants and check their hours/prices etc. that's the only way to know if they have something that interests you at a time that you would like to go.
