Planning on visiting Annecy France arriving late afternoon Friday April 22 and leaving the next day to drive to Provence. Must be arround Avigion at about 18hrs.
I know it is difficult to drive and park in the old town and have heard about a hotel called "Alexander".
Any sudgestions as to hotels, resturants and general safety of walking the town in the evening.
We found it to be pretty lively in the evenings, but I think we were there on Friday/Saturday nights. Parking is definitely a challenge. Driving into town, don't get freaked out by the one way streets, cab/bus only lanes, and traffic. Just relax and take your time. They have lots of garages, but arriving at that time you may find many full. The hotels often have a deal with specific garages where you can get a big discount. But if you go to the wrong garage, then you pay full price which can be steep. We paid about 8 Euros a night at Parking Le Poste near the train station, validated by the place where we were staying, Hotel Des Alps from Rick's book. That happens to be the garage they have a deal with. It's not too hard to find because it's right by the train station and you just follow the signs to the station. Annecy is a very nice town for a visit - we enjoyed it thoroughly. Do not miss the waterfront park in the morning before you leave.
