Heading to Amsterdam next weekend and could not score tickets on-line for Anne Frank House(sold out). Any tips for visiting the house without pre-paid tickets? Thanks Mike DC
The AF house is until 9pm daily, after 5 or 6pm, you can usually walk right in.
My son and I went first thing on a Sunday morning and got right in. We had pre-booked tickets for the day before but missed a connection and got to Amsterdam a day late so we decided to just walk over and see how bad the lines were. Luckily, there were only a few people ahead of us.
You shouldn't have a problem getting in but to be sure go early in the morning. I've never had to wait the three times i've gone. well worth the visit even if you have to wait.
Thanks all for your help-will try early Sunday morning Mike DC
an advantage of going on a Sunday is that there won't be any school classes filling up the lines. your chances of being able to just walk in are pretty good.
We didn't have pre-paid tickets either. We showed up about half an hour after opening and there was a line up but it moved quickly.
Late afternoons are also a good time to visit too... Most tourist are headed back to their buses or hotels.
We were there several years ago and one of the Rick Steves' suggestions was to go right before closing time. We were there 1 1/2 hours before it closed - there was no line at all.
One quiet afternoon, standing in Anne's room, looking out of the window, the sudden sound of feet on that small staircase sent an indescribable chill up my spine.
