We're considering a stop in Andorra during our trip from Barcelona to Carcassonne or as a day trip from Barcelona. Online it looks like it takes a combination of train and bus to get there. I found Novatel bus company that says as a day trip it takes 3 hours each way and costs 45E each. Does anyone have feedback on if this is a worthwhile stop or day trip for sightseeing / bragging rights?
Andorra's not a member of the EU.
It's worth seeing only if you collect country notches in your gun belt. Imagine of string of older K-Marts and Dollar Stores and you've got the picture.
Been there, and can candidly say it is the most missable stop in the EU. I would not waste any vacation time or the 45E for a day trip. It's an outlet mall disguised as a mountain village.
Long ago, one would go there for the super ornate stamp you could get on your passport, however, I don't know if they still do that.
Ed is right, (as usual) it is a highly missable place, not "vaut le voyage" as Michelin guides would say. I did like the mountain drive up to Andorra but we stayed about 90 minutes and scooted back down the mountain. No "bragging rights" involved .
It's an outdoor version of a duty-free airport shopping mall. You expect to find bargains, but there aren't any. If you go during the summer, you could get stuck in miles of crawling traffic.
