Andalucía with 20-somethings: Home base of Seville or Granada?

My partner and I will be spending about 10 days in Andalucía with three young people, at Christmastime. We've been planning to rent an apartment in one place for at least the last week, using that as our home base for exploring Andalucía. We were just getting ready to commit to a place in Granada when an acquaintance said that Seville would much better sustain everyone's interest for that period of time (nightlife), and is closer to most of the places we'd want to visit. What do you think?

I'm not aware of the rental situation in Seville, but as for the youngsters, no worries. Spain practically invented nightlife, the party doesn't really get going until after midnight, and in most areas it will be plenty safe to move around at all hours. Also, Granada is my favorite place in Spain, but it's not really doable as a day trip from Seville (3.5 hours by bus or train). I'd highly recommend sparing a night or two for Granada.

Seville's in the middle, Granada's on the far end of the stick. Seville's a city, Granada's more of a large town. Go with what your friend suggests.

I've been a twentysomething in Southern Spain not too long ago and I'd definitely pick Seville. Granada is close to the beach, but since it's Christmas, I imagine it wouldn't be too lively. Seville has a great late night tapas scene. The few nights I have spent in Granada, I don't recall finding a whole lot going on and it felt a little sketchy the later it got. It's still a must see place though and I will be back. There's no age limit on the bar scene so go join em'! Once you see babies/grandparents running around bar tables at midnight, you'll see what I mean.

I would support Seville for the above reasons and especially for that time period. We spent New Years in Seville a couple of years ago. Good place.

Folks, these are excellent replies, and I really appreciate your perspectives on this question. So far everyone's in agreement, interesting! Are there any particular Seville neighborhoods or websites for individual places that you would recommend for our group's housing? We'd ideally like to have a house or townhouse (if this isn't impossible) in a location that's both quiet enough for us old fogeys --OK, middle-aged fogeys -- to sleep in relative peace, but close enough to nightlife that the younger ones can easily walk "home" pretty late at night. (Is that safe for them to do?) Again, thank you so much!
