My wife and are going to be in Andalucia Spain from Saturday May 2 to Wednesday May 6. We are interested in your suggestions of (a) B&Bs/Hotels, (b) Siteseeing, and (c) Restaurants:

-Seville: Flight in from Dublin. Saturday and Sunday. Attend a bullfight with reserved seats in shaded area.

-Granada: Train in from Seville. Monday and Tuesday. We have a 10:00AM reservation for Alhambra

-Cordoda: Train in from Granada. Wednesday Morning and afternoon. Jewish quarter. TVE to Madrid in late Wednesday afteroon.

Many many thanks in advance to fellow travelers!

Hi Jonathan,

You can check these places on Tripadvisor. We have stayed in each of them and would return:

Granada - Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol. Our favorite. Outstanding in every way and very well located for the Alhambra. Split for the top room with the balcony if it is available.

Seville - Hotel Amadeus. Excellent choice. Small place in the historic part of the city. Hard to locate but you'll be in a taxi so 'no worries'. Good sidewalk cafes nearby. Enjoy sangria.

Madrid - You didn't ask but if needed, consider Hotel Preciados. A smaller hotel that is in Rick's book.

Happy travels.

Many thanks for these wonderful suggestions! If anyone on this message board has suggestions for restaurants, even Spanish-speaking ones frequented by locals, I would greatly appreciate it.

We had a great experience with a Spanish (English-speaking) guide in Sevilla: Marta Casals who can be reached via email at marta-casals@terra.es. RS mentions her in RS Spain. She was sick the day of our 5 hour guided tour of Sevilla, but arranged to have another guide, a close friend, conduct our tour. Met us at the station, walked with us, taxid with us, and was so open, friendly, and PROUD of her city. Was one of the highlights of our trip. Sevilla is so walkable, and so full of rich history and great tapas...I definitely recommend devoting some time to a local private guide. Was 160 Euros total for two of us, not including lunch and a few entry fees (Cathedral Santa Maria de la Sede, bullring). But with our well-known guide, we walked right past any line we encountered. And her willingness to chat about anything, even Spanish politics, the Civil War, Franco, bullfighting...made for a wonderful afternoon.

Rick's book covers these cities very well, so heed his advice. Be aware that good hotels in these cities fill up FAST - book yours ASAP.

In Sevilla we had booked a rooom at Hotel Dona Manuela, and although the room and hotel seemed nice enough, the room tey gave us was right over the sidwalk restaurant and was incredibly noisy. It was the worst hotel experience of the trip. We ended up abandoning that hotel and finding a cheap flop-house, which wasn't terribly clean, but was quiet.

In Granada, we stayed at Hotel Anacapri and loved it. The staff there saved our bacon by getting us Alhambra tickets (I was an idiot and didn't arrange them before hand). Highly recommended.

We did Cordoba as a day trip between Sevilla and Madrid, and it worked out fine. I didn't think it warranted a whole day and an overnight, considering all the other places nearby. The great mosque is certainly worthwhile, though. One tip on that: we were there late in the afternoon (maybe just before closing time?), when the sun was low, and the low sunlight coming in filled the place with the most amazing golden light; plus, the crowds of tourists had mostly gone, and the place was just magical. Learn how to take pictures in low light before you get there - some really amazing shots inside.

You're headed for some of the greatest places in Europe. You'll love it.

BTW, if there's any way you can manage it, try to visit some of the white hil towns. If you have to pick one, I'd suggest Arcos de la Fronterra.

Have fun.
