We are planning a trip to Andalucia and Morocco during the first two weeks of August. I have heard much about the heat at that time of year, but should we reconsider traveling there then? We live in Southern California and are used to 90+ degree summers. Is it worse than that?
Yes, it is much hotter than that. I lived in Morocco for two years; the midday temperature in August will be 130 F. You really cannot stay outside in this; you must be in the shade or inside. The winter months are the ideal time for travel in Morocco.
Sevilla and the inland towns and cities around there are oppressively hot during August....typically well into the hundreds, with high humidity which makes it feel much hotter. It's better in the mountain towns, because they're higher, and along the coast....but it's still pretty hot.
