I know there are a lot of Francophiles on here, so I wanted to share with you a book that I recently purchased called "Pariz Quiz: How Well Do You Know Paris" by Dominique Lesbros. It's FANTASIC and it includes 400 "provocative, curious and humorous questions to enlighten and entertain". It's divided up by arrondissements and the answers and explanations are in the back of the book. I teach French at a university and my colleagues and I pull out this book to amuse ourselves during some long days. Here are some examples of questions (From the back of the book) 1. Why is the rue du Trésor so called? a) it's the former site of the Banque de France b) Workers found a treasure there during demolition work c) A dungeon, today demolished, used to house the treasury of Charles V. 2. What type of market was held in the place Maubert during the 19eme century ? a) A cigarette butt exchange b) A used clothing market c) A skins market (rabbit, fox, etc) 3. The Eiffel Tower, constructed for the World's Fair of 1889, was supposed to be demolished shortly thereafter. What saved it in 1909? a) It's aesthetic qualities, praised by three hundred artists in a petition b) It's technical, scientific, and military usefulness
c) The greed of a private company, which had already glimpsed a juicy profit from it. It's provided me with lots of useful FYIs for a city that I love. Maybe it'll interest you, too.
