I have one afternoon in Paris (arrive at 10am on Sunday, interview all day Monday, fly home on Tuesday) what should I do? I've seen the "major" sights before and would be willing to go back to any of them. I have a fiance at home for whom I should get some kind of gift. The travel is in 3 weeks, so the weather won't be great. I think I'll be staying on the east side of town.
What have you seen previously? and what are your interests?
If I were your fiance, I'd like you to do extremely well on the interview, get the job, and move me to Paris.
I've done the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Arc, Notre Dame, Invalides, and walked down the Champs. I'm thinking I'll go to Orsay, although I'm not much of an art buff. I had wanted to do a day trip, but the timing won't work. My guess is that I'll have a dinner that evening with my potential employer, so I don't want to be in danger of missing it.
My two favorite sites in Paris were the Saint Chappelle and the Cluny Museum (medieval history).
John – how about a walking tour of Montmartre? I thought it was interesting to see where the various artists lived and worked. Sacre Coeur is beautiful and the view is terrific. There are also a number of shops where you could pick up a gift for your fiancé. Good luck on the interview!
I'm with Karen!
Cluny Museum , now called Musee National du Moyen Age, even though art isn'y your thing, you can't go wrong w/ the d'Orsay or the Orangerie or the Marmottan
gift for fiancee: lots of nifty shops in St Germain/St Michel area; one that has Provencal patterns/colors in various items of clothing is Les Olivades (I think they have more than 1 shop in Paris---check online)
I also agree with Karen! Now that would be a great gift!!
I loved the Cluny/ Musee de Moyen Age. It's very interesting.
Or how about a boat ride on the Seine? Taking the Batobus (12 euros buys you a day pass so you can get on and off as often as you like) is a pleasant way to see the city.
