I was reading on another thread (lugagge and trams) and was wondering about the use of the card getting on and exiting. Do you use the card to get on and have to swipe it to exit as well?? From what I gather these cards can be purchased at Information kiosk at CS on the left when exiting the station - Is this correct??
To use the card you press it in front of the reader as you enter and then exit the tram. You can purchase them at the GVB/tourist information office across the tram tracks in front of Centraal Station.
They're also available at the TI office at Schipol Airport, but it usually has long slow lines. Faster outside CS. http://tinyurl.com/82yrja3
Yes, you need to check in AND check out whenever you board a vehicle* (except when transferring between two of the subway lines without going outsides the gates). If you don't check out, next time you try to check in you will actually check out and thus be travelling without a valid ticket.
Thank you Michael & Andre-info entered in my notes. With a few big cities on itinerary it is nice to know in advance how the transportation systems work in each.
Shelley, we bought a 5 day card and loved it. Worked for trams, metro and some buses (not the red ones). You check in and out as others mentioned. We also bought the Miseumkaart. I didn't think the IAMSTERDAM card would
Work for us.
