We are planning a 1 or 2 month trip to Amsterdam & the Normandy areas. Can you truly see these two locations in a month or would 2 months be better. We only stay at self-catering cottages and like to just make day trips out. Is this possible out of Honfleur & then Amsterdam? Also what about including the Lorie Valley-we went to Rocamador on a self guided walking trip 10 years ago and will never forget that incredible village.
We could spend longer, but two months is just about my limit before we just get too exhausted to comprehend any other new adventure.
I think a month would be fine, two weeks in Amsterdam and two weeks in the Normandy area. However, since Paris is basically between the two, you might want to spend some time in Paris as well. You would probably not want to spend more than a week in Amsterdam, if that. You can go on many day trips from Amsterdam, many of them by train, to places such as Haarlem, Antwerp, Delph, Brugges, and Brussels. Not to mention, just to take a drive in the Dutch countryside. As for Normandy, there are plenty of places to see such as the D-Day beaches, the city of Bayeux and its attractions (such as the Tapestry, Cathedral, WWII musseum, etc.), Caen, St. Lo. Lisiuex, Giverny, Rouen, Honfleur, and Deauville. You can also go to Mont St. Michel as a day trip from Bayeux. Personally, I would base myself in Bayeux - Honfleur is too far from the other things. If you want to go to the Loire Valley, then of course you would either need to extend your time or cut back somewhere. You could do a reasonable job of seeing Amsterdam, Normandy, and the Loire Valley in a month. Check out various threads on this forum to give you an idea of what you could do in each place.
