We are staying in Amsterdam for five nights in June. We have never been before. What neighborhood should we stay in? We are looking at an apartment in Golden Age Amsterdam (Unesco World Heritage) on the Prinsengracht.
Michael that was one gracious response on your part sir. Google sure is a winner. Ever try their free g-mail phone? One can make (NOT receive) free phone calls anywhere in the US good through 2011'. Just have to have a g-mail account and a PC microphone.
I believe you are referring to the brand new Canal Museum( http://hetgrachtenhuis.nl/) which just opened. If that is where you apartment is located, it's an excellent neighborhood...probably the best:)
You can do a virtual walk around the area courtesy of Google Street View: http://tinyurl.com/6kal7su
Have you read the RS Guide Book that includes Amsterdam yet? If so, good. If not, you should get it and read it as it has lots of good information that you are looking for and that we used when we went to Amsterdam twice.
we stayed at hanna penso in the southeast part near the zoo and hermitage museum. we loved it, would stay in that area again for sure. quiet, lots of good eats and easy access to the tram. hope this helps :):)
Rachel, my favorite neighborhood in Amsterdam is the Jordaan. But I also like the canal belt between the Amstel River and Leidseplein.
