Amsterdam metro pass

I plan to arrive to A'dam's Central Station from Schiphol by train. I also plan to purchase a 24 or 48 metro pass. Does the metro pass cover the airport to Cent. Station route? Is so, can the metro pass be purchased at the ticket machines at the airport?

I would also like to take a trip to Keukenhof Garden since we'll be there in peak tulip time. Is there a convenient way to get there either by train or bus from Central Station w/out going back to airport? I assume that this would probably not be covered by a pass.

The city transit pass doesn't cover the train ride from the airport. You can purchase the pass at the GWK office across from Centraal Station or inside one of the trams. Be aware that Dutch Rail only accepts chip&pin cards at the machines and ticket counters. So you will have to pay by cash at the counter.

Keukenhof is very near Schiphol so it's not a big deal catch the bus to the garden from there. There used to be a direct bus from the Leidsplien intersection in years past, but it was discontinued. From the official site you can purchase a combo ticket which includes the airport-garden bus and entrance which will save you a couple of euros.

Cindy, you 24- or 48-hour pass will not cover travel to/from Schiphol airport. Tickets are cheap though, € 3,40 one way second class I think.

If you are going to visit Keukenhof, buy yourself a combi-ticket that includes entrance at the park + shuttle bus from Schiphol. Schiphol is on the route to Keukenhof, hence shuttle buses departing from there.

Does Keukenhof have any flowers other than tulips? We will be in Amsterdam the last week of September and would love a day trip to a flower garden of some sort.

In the gardens there are lots of other spring flowers - beds of hyacinths, crocuses, narcissus and daffodils.

Remember that tulip season is the beginning of the flower season, and Amsterdam is much further north than NJ.

In the green houses in the garden are always fabulous displays of orchids and many other warmer plants.

Which month will you be going?

I'd say tulips are not even 1/4 of all flowers on display on Keukenhof

We're going in September, so appreciate the info. Michael, your alternatives to Keukenhof look great.

Cindy, didn't mean to hijack this thread. I wish we could have arranged our trip at peak tulip time!
