Try the Hotel Aalders. We stayed there last year and loved it. It's near the museums and a major tram stop. The area around it is residential and nice.

Hi Becky another vote for Hotel Aalders. Great location for the museums but a little out of the frey(in a good way). Nice and inexpensive hotel bar, comfortable. Mike

Add another vote for Hotel Aalders. Staff is fantastic and they serve a nice breakftast too. Short two blocks from the museums and on a quiet residential street.

B&B Batavia. Just google it. It's really only 2 rooms, the owners live upstairs. It's in a residential apartment building alongside a side canal, about 10 min walk from the central train station, and about 10 min from the Anne Frank house. I've stayed there 2 or 3 times and love it! Quiet, lots of TV channels if you need to veg, fridge in room but no microwave (they don't really want you to eat in room, but breakfast is brought to you there). GOod breakfast-rolls, ham, cheese, chocolate sprinkles for your rolls, jam buttter, LOTS of orange juice, coffee and tea. I've always felt safe there, even walking alone at night.
