We will arrive in Amsterdam at about 11 am on Saturday, April 26 and leave for Paris on Monday morning. I am planning to visit the Keukenhof gardens on Sunday. Can anyone give me an idea of how much time it will take to travel there and back and experience the gardens? I have gotten the impression that a day or two is sufficient for hitting the high points of Amsterdam? Also, we are staying at Hotel Aspen in Amsterdam. Is anyone familiar with this place? Thanks!
I was in AMS in May last year. I did a day trip out to Keukenhof. I remember it was an easy trip and a scenic train ride out there. I think it took maybe 30 minutes or so on the train. Then you have to get a bus to get to the gardens. You can buy bus ticket and garden ticket right there at the train station. The bus ride was maybe another 20 minutes.
I had 3 full days in AMS and I felt it was sufficient for what I wanted to do/see. I had full days but it was doable to get to all the things I wanted to and this included the day out to Keukenhof.
Hi Ashley: Google 'keukenhof gardens', click on 'route' and it'll tell you all the possibilities to get to the gardens by rail/bus combination, or bus alone. If you plan on going elsewhere outside Amsterdam during your short stay, Google www.ns.nl which is the Dutch train system website. It'll give you schedules, prices, and maps to track your route. How long in Keuk you ask; you can spend 4 hours or 4 days if a real serious gardener. When I go it's usually early arrival (0900hrs+/-) and depart around 1500/1600hrs). By then my feet have had enough and it's 'Miller' time.
Keukenhof is definitely worth it, you can do it in a morning. The earlier you get there, the better, by 11 am the tour buses have already disgorged masses of people.
