Hi, My husband and I, seniors, want to spend about a week in Amsterdam mainly to see the museums in June.(then on to Paris for another week) We would love a recommendation for a hotel with elevator, quiet rooms,at a reasonable rate. Hoping this is possible.
Thanks for any help.
We have stayed at the Beethoven Hotel on two trips to Amsterdam. It has an elevator and is situated in a very nice neighborhood about fifteen minutes walk to the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. hampshirehotel.onetime.com or www.hotelbeethoven.nl. I don't know how you are traveling but from Central Station you can buy a train ticket to South (Sud) Station. There you can buy a tram ticket on tram no. 5 and get off at the third stop. The hotel is right there.
I see the Best Western Leidse Square is offering some good rates in June (~100 euro/nt). Despite the name, its not on the Leidseplein, which can be pretty busy, has elevators. Easy walk to Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum and the Vondelpark.
Fran, You might have a look at the Poet Hotel in Amsterdam. It's located within VERY easy walking distance from both the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museums, and there's a convenient Tram stop nearby. They were renovating when I was there last, and I was in one of the newly renovated rooms. It was a bit "compact" but very nicely furnished. As I recall, they had an Elevator but one point to note is that you'd have to navigate stairs to get from street level up to the front desk area. It may be possible to enter at the same level as the breakfast room (street level), but you'd have to ask them about that. Happy travels!
The Times Hotel (Herengracht 137) - about a 10 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal, near the Jordaan area and convenient access to trams to get to Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Stedelijk, Hermitage & Dutch Resistance Museums. Easy walk to Anne Frank House as well as a number of small museums and historic canal houses you can tour. The Times has an elevator, it's located on a canal, quiet, bathrooms are a decent size (mine had full size tub w/ shower), a/c and free WiFi. They offer breakfast for an additional fee, but there are many restaurants and cafes within walking distance if you pass on the hotel breakfast. Supermarket and several laundromats offering self-service and drop-off are also within 5 minute walk. Hotel d'Amsterdam (Tweede Helmersstraat 4) - 5 minute walk to Leidseplein, tram stops to get to other parts of Amsterdam and a bus stop that gets you from/to Airport. Less than 10 minute walk to Vondelpark, Rijks/Van Gogh, etc. Located on quiet street. Supermarket and plenty of restaurants nearby. Small but modern elevator, free WiFi, a/c, mini fridge in room.
Hotel Aalders (www.hotelaalders.nl)is where he stayed the last time we were in Amsterdam. We enjoyed it so much, that we re-booked for our upcoming trip back to Amsterdam in April. The hotel is well located and easy walking distance to the Rijksmuseun as well as the Van Gogh museum and most attractions. The tram stop is one block away from the hotel on a quiet and quaint street.
The Hotel Fita is great...you can see all their rooms on the website.Wonderful breakfast is included , has an elevator, and is close to museums.
Fran, I would agree with Fran. My wife and I stayed at Hotel Fita for two nights this past June. A great hotel (IMO). Complementary laundry service too which was a nice surprise on day 15 of our trip! Enjoy your trip. Tom
I stayed at the NH Museum Quarter accidentally and it is exceptionally close to the museums. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188590-d472078-Reviews-NH_Museum_Quarter-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html
Fran, Last July I stayed at the RHO Hotel in Dam Square and it was excellent! Beautiful building, nice quiet rooms and of course good elevators. http://www.rhohotel.com/ Also right down the street is an excellent Chinese restaurant (Golden Chopsticks) and a fabulous little Croissant place called Rene's. Loved the dam Square area as well. very conveniant to everything. Have a great time !
Another recommendation for the Aalders. Stayed there a few years ago and loved it! A block or so from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.
