Amsterdam hotels near Leidseplein

Friends and I will be in Amsterdam for 5 days sometime mid-June. Any suggestions about hotels in the Leidseplein area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, B.

OK, nobody else chimed in, so I'll mention the place where I stayed. A little hotel called "Hotel de Paris"... yeah, go figure, Hotel de Paris in Amsterdam. Standard small, cheap European hotel. Clean but nothing too spectacular. It's a little bit off of Leidseplein, so if nightlife keeps you awake, its a little quieter.

We've stayed at the Hestia three times and found it quiet enough and friendly. They are behind the Marriott so maybe 2 blocks away from Leidesplein. The Owl Hotel is next door and I think there are a couple of hostels on the same street.
No A/C, but elevator, nice backyard sitting area and bikes, good windows and large box fans made it pretty comfortable.

We stayed at Hotel Alexander - 2 blocks off Leidseplein on a VERY QUIET RESIDENTIAL BLOCK. 5 minute walk to public transportation, within walking distance of museums.....we even walked to the Anne Frank House. Hotel has a lift and hotel was extremely clean. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Has a great breakfast should you choose it. A good bargain because it does not have air conditioning. But, AC is not, usually, needed in June. We were very comfortable.

My husband and son stayed at the Alexander- they were quite warm and when asked, were given very small fans ( 6-8 inches).

Check out the Hotel Aalders. It's about one tram stop from Leidseplein, near both the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. It was a great little hotel in a good location.

My wife and I stayed at the Leidse Square Hotel, which, like others suggested above, is several blocks off of Leidseplein itself and therefore reasonably quite. We had no complaints about the room, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel management was particularly accommodating: they let us leave some baggage there for five days at no charge while we made a side trip to Germany.
