We'll be visiting Amsterdam for a week in early October, and will use our Marriott reward points for a hotel. We can choose between a Marriott in the area near the Van Gogh museum, or a Renaissance near the Central Station. I realize neither are very back-doorish, but free is always good! I just wonder which would be the better location. Thanks, Carol
I don't have a definitive opinion, but just wanted to say that one benefit to staying near central station is that, in a sense, "all roads lead to Rome," meaning no matter where you want to go - there will be a bus/trolley/train from central. (However, I understand that the mass transit is pretty well fabulous throughout Amsterdam).
Also, just my personal opinion, but the pictures of the Renaissance hotel seem so much more European (i.e., older, more character) than the more modern Marriott near the museum district.
Roxanne is corrent the Renaissance is a much better location compared to the Marriott. It's actually on a residential street; very quiet and peaceful area.
