Both of these hotels (evenly priced) can accomodate my family of four. Has anyone stayed in either hotel or can and can help me decide?
I stayed at the Hegra years ago. The rooms are tiny but clean, the stairs are steep and narrow. It's an old canal house on the Herengracht (hence the name Hegra). The location is excellent, in my opinion. I walked everywhere from there, armed with a small city map. I did take a cab from and to the railway station with my luggage.
Denise, I booked the Wiechmann Hotel for April 7th for 4 days. It looked nice on the website and got very good reviews. Also no lift and tall narrow stairs. I too would like to hear from others about public transportation from the train station and their experience staying there.

We have stayed at the Wiechmann several times, but it has been years. the rooms were clean small and fine ,no elevator and no air-conditioning. Had a very good breakfast....the best part is the location, very close to everything. I think it is expensive, but all the hotels in Amsterdam are high. The ambiance is old world Dutch... Nothing high tech.
