Amsterdam hotel advice needed ASAP

If you have ever stayed at the Tulip Inn Dam Square, the Mercure Amsterdam Frommer, or the Banks Mansion in Amsterdam, I could really use some opinions regarding level of quiet, cleanliness, friendliness of staff, quality of breakfast, rooms with a view.
(I've been to TripAdvisor)
Is the Banks Mansion really worth all that $$???
4 of us will be staying 8 days, and we need to make a decision ASAP.
Thanks in advance!

I rely heavily on tripadvisor. If you find one that's within your budget and the reviews are spot on, get that one. The reviews have rarely been incorrect, and the suggestions there are about as reliable as the ones you find here on RS.com.

I just got back. This is my opinion. I did not care for Amsterdam that much. Having said that, I urge you to explore getting a room in Haarlem, You will save quite a bit of money doing so. My savings was $320 for staying 4 nights there. You simply go to the train station and go to track #1. There is a shuttle that goes back and forth to Amsterdam 4 or 5 times an hour. It is a 15 minute ride. Very easy. We preferred the sanity of Haarlem to offset the tourist crazed city of Amsterdam. Oh, Haarlem has some very nice canals etc to be explored too. If any of this sounds of interest. Let me know.

Not one of the hotels you mention, but I have stayed several times at the Ambassade with friends and enjoyed the space and convenience. I'm unsure what you would do for 8 days there, I would recommend some train travel and visit some other cities....also know that getting around can be quite confusing with their streets:)We've enjoyed many a laugh getting lost-we always appoint a "leader of the day"

Thanks for all the ideas; they are appreciated.
We've made reservations and are making our plans.
We hope to spend a day in Haarlem and another in Bruges, as well as the time in Amsterdam.
