Hi, I'm looking for a hotel for 4 days in Amsterdam in the fall. I tried searching the archives but no luck. Any places you have stayed and been happy and why? Thanks! Dan
What is you price range? Fall can be an expensive time in Amsterdam, as a lot of conventions are in town like the International Broadcasters.....one of the largest in the world.
You should book a.s.a.p. Hotels in A'dam are expensive and the reasonably priced rooms go quick.
I've stayed at the following places and was happy with both.
Hampshire Inn Prinsengracht: Right on a canal in the southern canal zone, awesome staff, very nice neighborhood, close to a tram stop and has an elevator.
Hotel Alexander: Has an elevator, great staff, very nice rooms (some with balconies), 3 minute walk Leidseplein and trams 1,2,or 5.
I have a room (cancelable) at the Best Western Leidse Square. I am in the 100 to 150 Euro range preferably but would go higher for something special. I have been looking on Tripadvisor, so I know nice things can go fast. I am going in October, so its not quite so bad yet. Thanks.
Dan
Have you purchased the RS guide book on Amsterdam yet? If not, you should get it and check out its many hotel and B&B listings. We use it every time we are in Amsterdam. Good luck and happy travels.
At your price range, I would look at the Avenue Hotel. It's close to Centraal Station, and there is a tram stop very close by:

The area around Leidseplein is quite nice. Lots of restaurants, and you're not far from the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Concergebouw and Vondelpark. I would keep your reservation.
Thank you all for the help! I think I have a decent plan now. Happy trails...Dan
