Amsterdam hostels

I will be traveling with my 16 & 18yr old nieces and they would like to stay in a hostel at some point on our trip to Europe. I thought that Amsterdam would be the place. Do you think it is safe to stay in a hostel in Amsterdam? Does anyone have any comments about Stayokay Vondelpark Hostel?

I've stayed at Vondelpark Hostel with my family. It's not bad, nothing special; I would stay there again. The five of us stayed in a room with six beds. They said they would try to keep the other bed open, but there was already someone sleeping there when we got to our room. Vondelpark is in a decent location, close to the major museums and boat tours, easy public transport to the rest of the city. You don't say where else you are going. A couple of places I highly recommend are Burg Stahleck in Bacharach on the Rhine (need reservations) and Institute San Sebastian in Salzburg (actually a women's college dorm that also rents, hostel style, to travelers).
