Amsterdam Day Trip from Dublin

We are traveling to Dublin for a long weekend in November (arriving Friday morning and leaving Tuesday morning). I have booked an early flight to Amsterdam for a day trip on Monday. Suggestions on what I can expect and should see in Amsterdam?

If you want to see the Anne Frank House, book in advance, or you'll wait for hours and may not get in. When you ask "what can I expect," I'm not sure how to answer. You will take the train from the airport to Centraal Station (cheap and easy). You will then either walk out of Centraal Station (if your first destination is close) or take a tram (if it is not). Otherwise, what are your interests? There's lots of great museums, or you can just walk around and soak up ambiance. Do you want to see the Red Light District - or avoid it? Do Dutch Masters excite you, or bore you? How about Van Gogh? Who is "we" (who is going and what ages)? Any special interests? Etc, etc. I recommend you get Rick Steves Amsterdam, Bruges and Brussels (and cut out and throw away the parts of the book not dealing with Amsterdam). See what interests you, as everyone is different, and prepare to be ruthlessly selec-tive, since you only have one day.
