My boyfriend and I love to eat/sight see more than anything. We are spending a long weekend in Amsterdam and were looking into a few day trips. We know we are doing Brussels. What are anyone's recommendations on a Monday day trip into Germany? where to go exactly and what to do. Thanks!!
It's a puzzle to me why someone would want to go to Germany when there is so much to enjoy in Amsterdam or the smaller towns nearby- Delft, Haarlem, or even the beaches. Even the Marken, Volendam and Windmill tour sold by the bustour people would seem more interesting.
Alternately, I'd spend much longer in Germany as it is so pleasant.
I agree with Melissa. Take a serious look at Delft. We have spent several days there on two different trips. Also Gouda. Tom in Germany. We enjoyed a few days in Liege, using it as a home base for visiting American military cemetaries in the region. We also enjoyed wandering around the downtown area.
How about doing Cologne? Or maybe something closer in Belgium, there's lots to see there, Liege, for instance.
Germany isn't that convenient from Amsterdam, but you could check out Düsseldorf or Köln or Aachen. These would be not be very convenient, though. The last poster mentioned Liege... don't bother, unless you want to be reminded of what Pittsburgh looked like in the 70s and 80s.
Having been to Amsterdam a couple of times, you will not be able to see its attractions in a long weekend. It has taken us over 10 days to see what we have wanted to see as well as having some time to sit and relax and view the scenery.
Agree wiTh other posters, spend your time in AMS or nearby cities. We took the bus up to Volendam, Edam , and Marken, really enjoyed the day . IMO there's to much to see in and around AMS that I would not try to cram in another country over a long weekend. Have a safe trip!!

I am traveling to Amsterdam in April. Your post doesn't say when you will be there but one thing we are going to do is go to THe Keukenhof Gardens near Lisse to see the tulips in bloom . I have heard from several people that it is quite spectacular.
An interesting day trip could be to Kinderdijk. If you have the time to spare, you can go by a boat excursion from Rotterdam. Or reach there by train + bus (the best option is still renting a car). Anyway: the windmill collection (19) at Kinderdijk is absolutely stunning.
Have done two long weekends to Amsterdam. Once we visited Leiden and Delft. And the other time Haarlem. Loved Delft, Leiden has a great market on the weekend (Saturday I think) and was pretty cool. Haarlem I would skip. In Belgium, if Ghent is a possibility I'd choose there over Brussles.
