We are taking a river cruise (15 days) from Budapest to Amsterdam in Sept and then staying 10 days in Amsterdam, Brussels. I would like suggestions for accommodations, preferably B&B's.
The Rick Steves' guide book for Amsterdam, Bruges & Brussels has many excellent recommendations. You might start there.
I stayed at a place called Hotel de Paris in Amsterdam. It didn't blow me away, but it was more than adequate and reasonably priced. More importantly, you know what they say about location in real estate- it sits right down the street from Leidseplein.
You absolutely can not beat Boogaard's B and B in Amsterdam. Check out the comments on Trip Adviser. Stayed last summer, and it beats the expectations!
Another vote for Boogaard's...one of the most pleasant stays anywhere, ever.
Don't confine your search to B&Bs or hotels. There is a wide range of houseboats available. The experience is vastly different and, to me, better than B&Bs and hotels offer. Check at http://www.houseboathotel.nl/ .
In Amsterdam we prefer to stay somewhere along one of the inner canals. Thats what makes Amsterdam different from other European cities. Very different feel, seems to be less auto traffic, and lots of trees lining the canals.
