I've been to AMS 7 times and always stay in a different hotel typically in the jordaan or centrum areas. We (my travel buddy and I) presently have the Hotel Eden booked in the Reimbrandtplein on the Amstel River for four nights in August. Now i'm starting to second guess the ion and am thinking something between Singal and Leidseplein might be a little more fun because I just found out my travel partner is cancelling due to work (he picked this hotel). My can't go wife as she is going to be in Sweden with our son for the World Scouting Jamoboree so i'm pretty much free to stay anywhere. So i'm curious as to where other travelers like to stay when in AMS for a period of time. I've seen most of the major sights several times, but just love walking/biking around the city stopping for a bite to eat, a beer or two etc. So where is your favorite hotel and part of the city to stay in a reasonably priced hotel.
Hi Michael. I've stayed in the Jordaan all 3 times that I've been to Amsterdam and really like it. I stayed in the Quentin Arrive Hotel twice (now about 90 euros per night for a room for 2 people) and Frederic Rent-A-Bike once (they have a number of properties and I stayed at Frederic's Parents' Place for 70 euros a night in a room for 2 people). The QAH is my favorite but has a minimum 3-night stay requirement so I couldn't stay there last time. I like the Jordaan because it's close to the train station where all the trams stop and because it's within easy walking distance of several areas of interest like Chinatown. And I like the ambiance of the Jordaan.
hi Sara, thanks. last time we stayed at The Toren in the Jordaan. I love that area of the city but thought i'd be nice to try somewhere new even though i've been all through the Rembrandtplein area just never stayed there. I'll check out the places you mentioned. BTW...I grew up right outside St. Louis and went to school at Cape.
stayed at hanna penso on the southeast side a month ago and really liked it. near the zoo and heritage museum. good eats, quiet and easy access to tram. would stay here again for sure. :):)
meant the hermitage museum , sorry

We stayed at Boogaard's B&B a few streets SW of the train station. Quiet street, great food, and Peter has great suggestions for food.
@Michael - really! How did you come to live in Massachusetts?
Michael, I've been to Amsterdam 6 times myself. Try the 9 Streets area. It falls somewhere between the Jordaan and Leidseplein. http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/spotlight/the9streets There's also De Pijp and some nice hotels along Hobbemakade.
