I'm going to be in Brussels and Amsterdam this April and need some advice on good hotels. Looking to spend no more than 110 euros/night. Would like to stay near the Grand Place in Brussels. In Amsterdam we would like to stay around the Jordaan district. If there are other areas of these cities worth staying please let me know! I checked with Hotel Brouwer in Amsterdam and they have no rooms available. Thanks!
I can't help directly, except to warn you that April is high season for Amsterdam (tulips), and that Amsterdam hotels are not good value for money (demand is high year round, and many hotels are small and listed in multiple guidebooks, so they fill up fast). So: 1. Nail down a hotel NOW. I'd either e-mail a bunch of places to see who has space, or look at Hotels.com or booking.com or venere.com to get lots of choices. 2. Be prepared to raise your budget, or accept that you will have to compromise on location, amenities, etc.
Stayed at Hampshire Eden in 2010. Rooms show $135 on Orbitz. Rooms are tiny, but it is what it is in Amsterdam at that price level. Across the Amstel from the Opera House and back door is a block from Rembrandts Plein and the tram stop.
We started our trip last spring in Amsterdam and spent an arm and a leg on a hotel room for two nights! We ended being in Amsterdam longer than expected at the end of our trip and ended up renting an AWESOME apartment not to far from the train station. It ended up being cheaper than a hotel. We rented our place through VRBO. This picture (I did not take) shows the building we were in: the short dark one in the middle. http://www.iwcamsterdam.nl/media/rotate/amsterdam1.jpg I don't have any advice for Brussels as we chose to do Brugge instead.
Hi Laura, We stayed at a lovely B&B in the Jordaan. It is called Bee's B&B. Very reasonable for the area. You also might want to check Trip Advisor for B&B listings. That's how I found Bee's. I second the advice to book asap. Good Luck.
For Amsterdam we stayed at a place on AirBnB: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/398236 It was 80 USD a night, and the host was fantastic. She also has other properties around Amsterdam if you are looking for something more than a studio. For Brussels we stayed here:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g950780-d2443387-Reviews-A_Cote_du_Cinquantenaire-Etterbeek_Brussels.html It was at the time 85 USD a night including breakfast, and the owner was again fantastic. It is a short subway ride away from the Grand Place. I suppose we wanted something more local feel and less crowded.
