Amesterdam, Holland, Denmark, Belguim and Paris

I would like to plan a trip in the summer to these countries, but don't know how I should go about it? Where I should start and end? How long to stay in each place and which places to visit? Help please!

Well, first, it would help us to know a bit about what you like to do, and see. How long will your trip be, and what sort of budget you are working with would also help us make meaningful suggestions. My first suggestion would be to book an "open jaw" flight into one city, and then home from your last city to avoid back tracking. For example, we are flying to Paris in mid May from Seattle. We will visit folks in Belgium by train, and then up to Amsterdam for a few days before flying home. We will take about three weeks, but it will not be enough time, I'm sure.

We will be traveling with our three kids (teenagers) and we are planning on going in mid july for approximately two weeks.
I was thinking of flying into Amesterdam, then driving or taking the train to Belguim and then to Paris. Finally flying out of Paris. What do you think? I appreciate your input.

Hi Rita. Where do you want to go in Belgium? I would suggest doing some research on what you and your family are interested in. For example, the town of Tongeren has Roman and medieval ruins (walls); Tournai has the fabulous medieval cathedral, as well as Roman ruins; Ghent has two castles (one you can tour) and is also home to the "Ghent Altarpiece" by Jan van Eyck (in Sint Baafs Kathedral).

Rita, Flying into Amsterdam and returning from Paris is a good plan (IMHO, it's best to visit the cities in that order). I assume from your second post that you've dropped the idea of visiting Denmark? With only two weeks to work with, and in the middle of the peak summer travel season, that's not going to work well. I'd structure the time something like this: > You'll need 2 days for travel (you'll arrive in Europe the day after you depart the U.S.) > Amsterdam, 2-3 days (depending on what you want to see) > Belgium, 2-4 days (possibly 1.5 days in Brussels and the remainder in Bruges) > Paris, ~5-7 days (with day trips to perhaps Versailles or take a couple of days for a quick trip to Normandy). Depending on what you want to see in Paris, you might consider a Paris Museum Pass (check the website for details and costs). How long to spend in each location will depend on what your sightseeing interests are. I'd strongly recommend checking some Guidebooks to get some idea on what the sights are in each place. If this is your first trip to Europe, I'd also recommend pre-reading the Guidebook Europe Through The Back Door before you get too far in your planning. Good luck with your planning!
