Most of the articles on the internet claim that the majority of tourists are from UK. Why are the Americans not going to Costa del Sol?
Also...I read that there is a law that you can't have anything on your dashboard? I will be driving throughout southern Spain and plan to use a GPS system. Any thoughts?
A newer GPS unit will acquire satellites even from below the dash, better technology, if it can see a little bit of the sky through the windshield.
So..Can I use my new TomTom? I undestand that satelite is needed...I just want to get pulled over.
Opps...what I meant was that I DON"T want to get pulled over.
Has anyone else driven around the Marbella area? Anything i should be concerned about??
I think a lot of people avoid going to the Costa del Sol partly because of all of the tourists. There are areas that are so tourist-laden that even the Spanish avoid them. In my opinion, I can see beaches anywhere. If I'm going to Spain, I want to see Spain.
We regularly drive with our GPS on the window - it is non integral. This is totally legal.
Jackie....one reason is that it's a lot more expensive to fly to Spain from the U-S than England. It can be a weekend away for the Brits....not so those of us here in North America. Traditionally, Spain is a country not much visted by Americans anyway, altho I think they're missing out ;). Actually, the Costa Del Sol is no more "touristy" than, say, Orlando....and yes, the Spanish do visit there. All those places along the water are jammed with Spanish families during the summer months. The Costa can be a great place to base yourselves for tours into the "white villages," Sevilla, Tarifa, and Granada, and car rental rates out of Malaga are the lowest (by far) in Spain.
Jackie, I'm assuming your "new Tom Tom" GPS unit is equipped with Euro maps? That was one thing that occurred to me after reading your posts.
Cheers!
