My husband and I are travelling from Barcelona to Amboise during the day to see the countryside. Our rail pass is good for France, so I think we'll have to buy a ticket to the first station in France and then use our rail pass. What is the best route to take,and where is a good place to stay in Amboise ?- hotel or B&B, doesn't matter.

We stayed at a terrific place in Amboise, Le Manoir Les Minimes. It's a converted French manor house. It's like you're a housequest of your rich French uncle. The pictures on their website will give you an idea. http://www.manoirlesminimes.com/

I stayed at Chateau De' Ormeneaux in Amboise and loved it. It is a small chateau that is near Amboise in the country side. It was a 10 min. drive into town. Check it out on tripadvisor.com for reviews.

We stayed at Hotel Le Clos d'Amboise and really enjoyed it. Lovely room & grounds. Easy to walk to most everything in Amboise from this location.

We too stayed at Manoir des Minimes, but in the little guest cottage on site which was a bit cheaper. However, you are literally at the foot of a castle with a view of the river out front. Wow - makes me want to go back!!
