Amboise, France

I'm planning a trip to France in October & the last leg of our trip brings us to Amboise. We plan to be there for two nights to see the chateaus & wine tasting, etc. Any good hotel suggestions? Does anyone know anything about or stayed at Le Choiseul? Reviews are quite mixed. Any suggestions would be appreciated & helpful. Thank you. Peggy

We stayed at Le Manoir de Saint Thomas in 2010. Lovely Hotel in the center of town with a wonderful breakfast(separate charge). Very friendly staff and lovely rooms.
The bathtub is perfect for soaking in after traipsing in and out of the chateaux.

It certainly looks beautiful. The prices seem a little high. Did you stay in the manor house or in the cottage? Did you think it was worth the price?

We stayed in the cottage at Manoir les Minimes - other than a problem with spiders (long story) - we liked it very much. Worth the money to us, but everyone's different. It's very classy and beautiful. Previous to that trip we stayed at another hotel in Amboise, recommended in the RS guide, called Hotel Belle-Vue. It was horrible. There are a couple hotels next to the chateau de Chenonceau in the town of Chenonceaux (different spelling) that I'd like to stay at next time, one has Rosairie in the name. Past threads have talked about the two and they sound really good. Much less expensive than Manoir les Minimes.

" Did you stay in the manor house or in the cottage? Did you think it was worth the price?" We stayed in the manor house. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but we thought it was worth it. It was fun for a day or two to pretend we were French nobility.

We loved Le Vieux Manoir...a highlight of our stay in France!

We stayed at Chateau de Nazelles and the Chateau DES Ormeaux. Both were terrific! Nazelles is high on a hill with views down to Amboise from a garden where you can enjoy a glass of wine with wonderful views. Both have pools. DES Ormeaux is like living in a castle...very fitting for the Loire. Neither is cheap, but both are great experiences! You would need a car since they are a few miles from Amboise.

We also spent several lovely days in Amboise at Manoir St. Thomas and found the accommodations to be excellent. The room was large, beautifully decorated in antique furniture except for the new mattress, and spotlessly clean with a modern en suite bathroom. Because Manoir St. Thomas is centrally located, it was only a short stroll to several restaurants and small cafes. The management was friendly and helpful.

If you are a RS type of traveler, I'd suggest the Hotel Belle-Vue in Amboise. We have stayed there twice and the location can't be beat. On both occasions, our room for three looked up at the chateau. Clean, friendly, close to numerous restaurants in the center of town. One of those places that your remember the name when you return home. Good luck.

We just got back on 4/30.Had a lovely experience at La Maison Blanche in Amboise-a rural experience just a mile from town.Sort of a refreshing difference to the city hotels where we stayed for most of our 3 week trip. The owner,Annick, doesn't serve breakfast until 8:30 because she goes to the bakery early in the morning to pick up a variety of fresh breads-worth waiting for! Amboise is a nice hub if you have a car-lots of interesting chateaux in the area.Don't miss Clos Luce-Leonardo da Vinci's place, truly fascinating. We discovered a cute little restaurant "au P'tit Bonheur".Annick can tell you where it is.One of the best meals we had in France.Happy travels! PS If you need to do laundry,Annick can direct you to a convenient laundromat.
