Anyone have "must stay" B & B reccommendation for Alsace region? Something to use as home base a couple of nights. Thanks in advance to all advice!!
The local website: http://www.visit-alsace.com/
has a lot of hotels to choose from. Riquewihr is my favorite town.
I found a place on Trip Advisor. It is nice to read reviews and see pictures of places you may want to stay. We don't stay there until June so I won't know until then whether it is a great place or not.
I have to agree with Kathy about Riquewihr - a great little town with loads of character, the Alsatian kind, not the Disney kind. And located well enough to offer several short daytrips. We stayed in a small Hotel St. Nicholas there. I'm not sure if it's still in operation, but it was very pleasant.
Thanks for all the advice! The St. Nicholas is still open...we are considering Hotel Le Sarment d'Or because has good reviews on tripadvisor and the restaurant comes highly recommended. Anyone stay there before? Would really prefer a B & B in town but will consider small hotel if the price is right. Thanks again. peg
I would suggest Equisheim, Madame Bomgender B & B., see comments under Jan 25 post.
Checking it all out! Thanks for the advice everyone. Anything on the Hotel Le Sarment d'Or? peg
We spent three wonderful nights in Alsace last Oct (unluckily it was foggy). The first 2 nights we spent in a great B&B in the home of a local wine maker, Christophe Bleesz, and had a great time. His place is in a small town--out of the way--but if you are driving you will have no problem. The breakfasts were the best we had on our trip, and his wine was wonderful. We were on a tight budget and the rates were competitive. Here is the link: http:..www.bleesz.fr/Home-m1-en.html.
