Alps scenic areas

Been to the Bernese Oberland which was incredible. Can anyone recommend any other areas which are as spectacular?

Umm... all of the Alps. OK, but you wanted specific recommendations, I assume. I like all of these places for different reasons- Flumserberg and Zermatt in Switzerland, Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany, Lech am Alberg and Hintertux in Austria and Val di Rabbi in Italy.

My Top 10 of the Alps: 1. Dolomites, especially the eastern part between Cortina and Sexten 2. Upper Italian Lakes 3. side valleys of Vinschgau 4. Saas Fee 5. Grandes Jorasses 6. Aosta Valley 7. Hinterstoder valley 8. the great "Aussichtsberge" of Switzerland (Rigi, Pilatus, Titlis etc.) 9. Karwendel
10. Adamello-Brenta

Each area of the Alps have their particularities. The Dolomites east of Cortina d'Ampezzo are particularly interesting, at least to me, due to special geological features of its mountains. The various narrow valleys in Aosta are insteresting for the proximity it brings mountains to you (the valleys are deep, and narrow, so you don't have to climb upon the first set of mountains to then look at the second and taller ones).

Hi Bill, As spectacular as the Berner Oberland? a place which came the closest so far was the Zillertal and our stay in the small village of Finkenberg there. http://www.worldisround.com/articles/355538/index.html There's no shortage of spectacular alpine scenery in Austria, Bavaria and the Dolomites. The Dolomites are a particular favorite of ours, meaning the area between Cortina d'Ampezzo to the east and the Val Gardena in the west. http://www.worldisround.com/articles/355539/index.html http://www.worldisround.com/articles/324504/index.html http://www.worldisround.com/articles/351565/index.html Paul

I recommend the drive over the Grossglockner High Alpine Highway from Zell-am-Zee, Austria south to Lientz, Austria (on the Italian border.) The Grossglockner is the second highest peak in Europe. The scenery is absolutely incredible, especially on the southern side of the mountain.
You can easily go west through Cortina and come back through the Brenner Pass into Innsbruck via autobahn if you need to come back into Western Austria.

>"The Grossglockner is the second highest peak in Europe." No, he's not. The Großglockner is the highest peak of Austria, but there are at least 80 peaks in the Alps that are higher, including the Matterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, or the Ortler, which was the highest Austrian peak until 1918.
