We will have 2 days in Bayeaux to explore but n the 3rd day we hope to get up early and see Mont St Michel then go to Chatres but still make it into Paris that same night. Our hope is to drop the car off on the outskirts of Paris and take the train into the city. Can it be done? Alll this on a Wed in May. Thanks!
Piece of cake. You're looking at a bit less than six hours of driving. MSM will take a couple of hours, the cathredral at Chartres about an hour. A lot of folks seem to train in from Chartres, so take your pick.
Hello Deborah, Done? Maybe. IF you encounter no delays, then yes, it possibly could work. Takes about 1 1/2 hours from Bayeux to MSM. Assuming you can get parked and get right onto MSM you are done just before lunch. You could grab a bite on the way out and drive straight to Chartres getting you there about 2:30 -3pm. Assuming you spend an hour at Chartres and drop the car there, you could make it into Paris in the evening. However, this assumes no wait at MSM - when we were there (which was in August, so definitely more tourists!) the line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot at 10:30 in the morning was over a mile long!
I would recommend that you pick either MSM or Chartres to see if you only have one day or add another day into your itinerary.
Don't get yourself stressed... chose one of the sites, spend a good part of a day more than just "having a glimpse of it", and enjoy it instead of rushing.
Yes, you can see both of those sights, but if you want to experience and enjoy them, I'd choose one. Having stayed in Bayeux for five days, I can say it wasn't enough time in that beautiful and historic area.
