We have a three hour guided tour beginning 10 AM May 10. Will we be able to linger in the alhambra after the tour or will we have to leave with the tour group?

You can linger as long as you like. Some parts like the palace are one time through per ticket.

You may visit and remain in unticketed areas for as long as you want. You may remain in your last ticketed area until the end of the day, if you feel the need. The tour, I would hope, will end with Nasreed Palaces. If this is indeed a three hour tour, plus your 'linger', it sounds as though it may do justice to the complex, based on general consensus (including myself) that four hours is about right.
