Alhambra entrance for poor walker

My mom has a handicap and cannot walk long distances quickly so I'm trying to minimize what Rick says is a 15-minute walk from the ticket office entry to Palacios Nazaries, both for her comfort and out of fear of missing our 1/2 hour window because of her speed. We will have a cane or walker with us but probably not a wheelchair.

Is it possible for a taxi to drop her near the entrance to PN and then I can pick up our tickets without her (making the walk back to where she will be waiting near PN), or does she have to enter the complex through the ticket office entrance? If she does have to enter by the ticket booth, is it possible to rent wheelchairs at that location and do you know how to reserve them in advance?

Or should I scrap the whole plan and make her buy a wheelchair for the trip, so we can quickly push her from the ticket office to the PN? I refuse to let her miss the Alhambra no matter what it takes!!

Shannon....my hat's off to your determination..I know your mother will love it! While I've seen people in wheelchairs, I've never seen any facilities for borrowing/renting them, nor do I find any info about that on the Alhambra site. But all is not lost. People who hold tickets can enter through the Justice Gate, "Puerta de la Justicia." I would suggest you take a taxi to the main gate, get him to wait, pick up your tickets (order them on line as far in advance as you can), then jump back into the cab and ask him to take you to the Justice Gate, where there's a taxi stand. You'll be nice and close to the Nasrid palaces from there. There's an excellent map of the complex at http://www.planetware.com/map/alhambra-and-generalife-map-e-agg.htm . The main entrance and ticket pickup is at #42. The Justice Gate and taxi stand is at #7. The entrance to the Nasrid palace complex is at #13. Bring a walker though...she'll need a place to sit. And the Generalife involves a lot of walking, but the gardens are wonderful! Bring lots of water.

Norm's got a good plan, but I would caution that the entry by the Justice Gate is not entirely flat. Only an issue if it's going to be one for your mom.

Adam...if I remember, the taxis can drive straight up there, can't they? There's a taxi stand inside the walls there, so they should be able to bring her right up.

I yield to Norm's better memory. (We walked when we were there.)
