I'm travelling to the Algarve (solo) for 3 glorious days in April. Any advice on which of the three towns (Tavira, Lagos or Salema) to use as a bouncing-off point would be greatly appreciated. I prefer a less-touristy town with a medium night life. I'll be travelling by train / bus and flying in/out of Faro.

I don't know about Tavira, but have been to both Lagos and Salema. I loved Salema as it is the least touristy. Not a whole lot of night life other than leisurely dinner by the beach and drinks after. The seafood is great, the people are friendly and it is a very laid back place. Stayed at La Pension Hotel and it was perfect.
