We will be taking the bus from Sevilla to Lisbon in early October. We thought we might break up the journey by stopping in one of the towns in the Algarve for some seafood and staying overnight.Considering both the Bus route and stops and the quality of the town, what might some of you suggest? Thank you, George, Pittsburgh, PA
Have you looked in to flying rather than taking the bus? It's not that much more expensive, and it gets you one (maybe two) more days in Europe...how much is that worth to you?
If you're looking for convenience as per the bus route, Lagos is nice. It can be very touristy (at least in the summer) but it's very quaint and lovely if you wander the interior, closest to its walls. I believe the bus will also stop at Faro, but I can't make any recommendations for that town as I've not been. If you're willing to branch out a little from the main bus drop, smaller villages such as Salema or the Sagres area have tons of charm as well. We took the bus from Lisbon down to the Algarve and then on to Sevilla last summer and it was one of the best trips ever. Enjoy!
Hi George,
Salema is a bit off the beaten path but if you can spare a couple of nights I think that it's a great contrast between Sevilla and Lisbon. It's in Rick's book--we took a bus from Sevilla to Salema(via Faro)and spent 2 nights. Then a bus from Salema (also via Faro) to Lisbon. Salema is a small beach community with excellent seafood restaurants. We enjoyed our stay at The Mare, Salema
