Albufeira, Portugal

Is three days enough time in Albuferia, Portugal in mid October? Any recommendations for activities?

Barely. You need one day to go as far east as you can and then get back. Another one to head west. One right around Albuferia itself for the morning gypsy market and an evening boat cruise alone the coast.

Thank you, Ed. We are coming from Seville, Spain into Albuferia and then leaving there and going back to Lisbon. We will travel in both those directions coming and going. Thank you for your suggestions about the boat and the market.....
Could we see what we need to see, and do the things you suggested in two days or do you think three is the right amount of time considering our travels getting there?

Yep. Here's the way I'd do it. Leave Seville and make it to (hop off the freeway about at Tavira and use the coastal road) Faro for lunch plus two hours (either side). Look up around the roofs if you've never seen storks. Press on to Albuferia and get set up. Back-track five miles or so to Quarteria for a cruise from the marina. Bring your own booze and grub. Do it at about sundown. Go back to Albuferia and call it a night. You should make it to Faro in a couple and a half hours and Albuferia is only a half hour more down the road. Press on westward the second day. Portimao and Lagos are the main stops. Lagos is further (only about forty-five minutes direct from Albuferia - - make it the lunch stop. From there, you're about three hours from Lisbon if you use the coast road up as far as Sines, about a half hour shorter if you double back and use the freeways. If you toss in Cape Sagres just to say you've seen it, that'll add another hour or so. I'm a nut for furtherest points, so if I had to drop something to see the cape, it'd be Portimao. Lagos is a bit of a bear to get into if you're unfamiliar with it. Follow the N125 signs/fattest roads until you get to the center of town along the water (don't try to outsmart yourself and cut down the hill from the west since you'll go nuts on the one-way streets). There's no gypsies at the gypsy market, it's just a standard batch of vendors. It's only a couple of days a week and the only reason I go up there is for the street grub. Your meal plans look pretty well set.
