Because this isn't a very long drive, we thought we'd make more of a day of it, starting with the "back road" out of Albi, through Gaillac and on to Bruniquel . After that, we're open to suggestions for interesting and/or beautiful views. Any "Don't Miss" ideas? Great places to eat? An unheralded spot you've discovered? Thanks.
We're going from Puycelci to Najac, Cajac, St Circ Lapopie, Grotte du Pech-Merle, Rocamadour, La Roque Gageac, and Beynac. Nothing is unheralded, but it seems like a good way to go; albeit 5:21 through 178 miles. Let us know what you find; our trip is in July 2012
You have several attractive stops possible in the Lot valley, but I think the most compelling, if you have time for it is the Grotte du Peche Merle, a magnificent cave with stunning paintings. St Cirq and Cahors are nearby. St. Cirq is a beautiful hill town, and the chief attractions in Cahors are a compact old town and the Pont Valentre, a medieval bridge, to the west. You should prioritize, since I do not know that you would have time for everything. Save Beynac and, if you go, Rocomador for day trips from Sarlat.
