Airline strikes in Spain

We are planning to fly out of Madrid to Rome on March 30, 2012. We are booked on Iberia Air. They are currently having strikes on Monday and Friday of every week. I have been told that some flights still go out even though they are on strike. Does anyone know if there is any way to find out if our flight will go out? Does anyone know if Iberia will give us another flight if ours doesn't go out? Has anyone flown out on one of these strike days? Our whole trip to Italy will be ruined if we can't get out of Spain. Help anyone?

I went through this last year with British Airways and they talked of effecting Easter Holiday travel. Fortunately it was resolved. Nothing to do with the strike but we flew from Verona to Madrid on economical Ryan Air so if Iberia can't get you out maybe they could be a backup. Did you check if the flight went out last Friday. They are now partnered with British Airways so if you can't get information from Iberia maybe British Airways can help you? So sorry

Good idea to check last Friday's flight. Also, thanks for the backup airline. I'll check it out.

Hopefully, you don't have a connection in Rome right when you arrive. Strikes are always a possibility. Generally the airlines figure a way to work around them. Rather than being stuck, you're more likely to have a longer layover and arrive a little later than planned. This is actually a good example why people who book cruises should plan to arrive at least 24 hours before their departure - it gives you a little lag time for a canceled flight or missed connection. We're flying into Madrid April 2nd, and immediately catching a flight to Barcelona. We'll see whether it goes smoothly or not. Spanair (which our itinerary originally included) went out of business since we purchased our ticket - all part of the fun.

Luckily we don't have a connecting flight. We just need to get to Rome on Friday as our schedule is tight...touring Italy in 10 days.
So you think that the airlines usually work things out and we will get rescheduled if our flight is cancelled? Iberia is definately scheduled to strike that day.

Looks like you're good until the mediation breaks down, but that shouldn't be for at least a month or two.
