Hi - does anyone know if $1250 is a good fare for non-stop from California to France in October? I've been trying to track fares for the past couple months, and websites like Bing keep telling me to buy but prices appear to be going down a bit... Thanks in advance! This board has yielded so many helpful hints :)
I think it is a fair price. It is like buying stock - very tough to buy at the bottom 'cause you don't know that it is the bottom until it has passed. Remember anyone who tells you to wait has nothing at risk.
I think it's a very good price.
Here's the link to the article that Bets mentioned... http://travel.nytimes.com/2012/05/06/travel/how-to-get-refunds-when-you-book-travel.html?ref=practicaltraveler
If you check non-stop fares in the middle of the summer you will come up with prices that are at least $400 more expensive. Trans-Atlantic fares for the summer show no signs of slipping yet. Your October possibility seems reasonable in comparison. Short-time bargains for individual dates or routes may crop up, and so could a winning lottery ticket. Nobody knows what October holds, probably not even the airline operators.
The best fare I found this year was just shy of $1000 for this fall, but that's from the middle of the country, and it was the lowest I found after tracking fares for months. Your fare seems reasonable...it's probably not going to go any lower...too many factors keeping fares high this year. I'm starting to think these European fares don't seem so bad to me now after buying a RT recently for $2500 (Asia). Yikes!
I was looking for Sept fares earlier this Spring and $1200+ was the norm. BUT I found a special on Expedia for $923 in March (and with an additional $50 credit if I signed up for their credit card, which I did and will cancel as soon as I pay for this flight). I definitely agree that this board has given me many ideas, hints, etc. and answered many of my questions!
We purchased tickets for September for a little more than that, plus travel insurance, through cheapoair on Air Tahiti Nui (a subsidiary of Air France). It's non-stop from LA to Paris. We've flown this airline before and found it excellent. So, $1250 sounds like a good deal. We bought early because the news was that airline fuel was going up and so would prices.
I would caution anyone buying an airline ticket thru one of the re-sellers like Expedia, etc. that if there is a problem with you or your flight, you MAY have more problems than those who have purchased tickets directly thru the airlines. I look all over the internet for prices for the flight I want and then go to whatever airline I choose to purchase my ticket. I have never had to pay any great difference in price. I just wish SAS and Air France still flew out of SEA nonstop to Europe
Charlie,
I believe AirFrance is still flying direct out of SEA. I had heard a rumor they were discontinuing, but as of today it's still flying. Do you know when they plan to stop (if they do)?
