Air Travel within Spain

We need to fly between Madrid and Barcelona. We have found a good fare on Air Europa. Can anyone provide some input on this airline?

We are open to suggestions of other airlines that would be leaving Madrid around 1:00 pm on a Wednesday in May.

Thanks.

No specific comment on that airline but just be sure you know exactly which airports that airline is using. Some of the discount airlines use very remote airports which considerable time and expenses just getting to and from the airport. I always look to the train when the train time is less than six to seven hours as been faster than the a plane.

Why not just take the train, and avoid the hassles of getting to the airport, security, etc. There are high speed trains from Barcelona to Madrid that only take about five hours.

I've just been checking myself...the AVE train is only 3 hours. Definitely sounds better than dealing with airports!

Air Europa flies to BCN....but Tyler's right...take the AVE high speed train. You can book cheap tickets, as much as 60% off, up to 62 1/2 days in advance at www.renfe.es . Most of the site is in Spanish, so it's a bit of a hassle, but certainly not impossible. And when you can get a second class ticket for 46 Euro, it's worth it!

We flew SpanAir from Madrid to Barcelona. It was cheaper than the train and not at all a hassle except that you had to check luggage. They did not allow suitcase carry ons.

I like AirEuropa (at least as much as one can like a low cost airline), and have flown with them a number of times. However, taking into account prices and the locations of the airports (both El Prat and Barajas are some ways outside of the cities they support), the AVE really does seem to be the more logical option.

The AVE train is an excellent option that I've used for this trip in the past. You can sit back, relax with some music on your ipod, and watch the Spanish country side pass by.
