Hi, I just read an article by Rick Steves that states that the Aiguille du midi tram from Chamonix only runs in the summer. The tram website shows that it runs into the fall and closes during winter. I am planning to go mid to late September. I am sure weather can be a factor moving into the fall months, but does it still run on a daily basis?
Thanks...
LB, the gondola to Aiguille du Midi does run later into the year. It's the secondary gondolas to Italy that open later and close earlier. We were there in early October 2011 and rode the early gondola up to Aiguille du Midi. The gondolas to Italy closed 3 weeks earlier. For our journey up, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the weather was warm. We didn't even need our jackets up there. Absolutely one of the best views on the planet. Hope you have a similar experience.
The official site defines "summer" as May 30- Nov 30. So technically it's open summer and fall. So it will be running during your visit in Sept:)
We were there in late October. The morning we arrived the gonda was closed because of snow but around noon when the weather cleared we were able to ride up. It's an amazing sight. Be sure to do it.
