I am going to be taking a Rick Steves' tour that ends in Vienna. Eventually, I need to work my way into western Italy. I was thinking about going from Vienna to Ljubljana then to Trieste then heading towards Milan. I have a week to get there. I cannot seem to find public means between Ljubljana and Trieste. Any ideas?

Seems that trains go between those two cities. Check the DBahn site at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en Unless I have the cities wrong. It does seem to be a bit of a journey, over 6 hours.
